High Park

Not all parks are created equal. While most contain trees, grass, playgrounds, and the obligatory picnic table etched with sweetheart’s names and idle profanity, one Toronto park in particular is so spectacular they named an entire neighbourhood after it. High Park is the City’s most beloved public greenspace, almost 400 acres of Eden curled at the feet of west-end residents like a faithful hound. And while it’s half the size of New York’s acclaimed Central, the two have a great deal in common, including a zoo, outdoor theatre, picnic grounds, ponds, cafes, flower gardens, a museum, a newly-rebuilt adventure playground, even a trackless train! For anyone with a pulse this is an idyllic outdoor wonderland year-round and the perfect reason to move west. The surrounding community is just as green as its namesake with gently rolling hills and calm winding streets lined with ancient oaks. History buffs will appreciate all the Victorian, Edwardian, and Tudor-style homes that feature a wide variety of memorable design details. Apartment hunters will usually range north of Bloor, but more than a few of the area’s century homes have been converted into multiplexes or contemporary Eco-epic condo-style suites. Wherever you end up, with Bloor West Village in the north and Roncesvalles in the east, you’ll be conveniently close to shopping, dining and a straight run into or out of the city. Isn’t it time you carved your own name into something special? Pull up a bench, we’ve been waiting.
